Import past conversations

Your AI agent brings your past conversations into Rinhelp, from the oldest to the newest, with their customers, messages, notes and files. Nobody is emailed, Rin doesn't answer them, nobody is assigned, and they don't count toward your plan.

You need a coding agent

To bring over every conversation with its files, use a coding agent that can run commands, such as Claude Code, Codex or Cursor. Files go straight from your old help desk to Rinhelp without passing through the agent's chat, which a chat app can't do. If you started the move in a chat app, run this step in a coding agent.

What comes across

  • Customers. Each conversation keeps its customer's email and name. Customers with the same email become one customer.
  • Status. A conversation that was solved, closed or archived comes in closed. Everything else, including pending, on hold and snoozed, comes in open.
  • Subject, tags and priority, as urgent or normal.
  • Messages, with their dates. Each teammate's message, and each one from your old help desk's AI, keeps its author's name, even if that person never joins Rinhelp.
  • Notes, which only your team sees.
  • Files up to 50 MB each, including images that were inside messages. The agent lists any bigger file, with its conversation, name and size, so you can keep it elsewhere.

Spam and trash stay behind.

Open conversations have no one assigned

An imported open conversation isn't assigned to anyone. An owner assigns the ones that still need an answer. See Work the inbox.

How long it takes

The agent sends 50 conversations at a time. Rinhelp can take 3,000 conversations a minute, so your old help desk's own speed limit and the file downloads usually set the pace. The agent estimates the time before it starts, and reports progress every few batches.

Running it again is safe

If something stops halfway, the agent sends the same batch again. Only new messages are added, and the status, subject, tags and priority are updated, so nothing comes in twice.

Catch up after the switch

Customers keep writing to your old help desk while the import runs. Once your email and chat widget come to Rinhelp, the agent runs this step again for the conversations updated since it began, adding only the new messages.

When it's done, the agent reports the conversations, messages and files that came in, and the files that were too big.

A customer who replies to an email your old help desk sent starts a new conversation in Rinhelp.
